The "trick" behind this is that if you should win, you not only get all your lost money back plus the amount of the first bet, you also get additionally the full amount of the last bet! This is really great if you don't win the first several times. On the level of a 32 Euros bet started with one Euro, you will get to keep your placed 32 Euros, plus 32 Euros which will cover your losses plus the one Euro of the first bet plus an additional amount in the height of your last bet, which in this case is 32 Euros!. So in this example, you will get a profit of 33 Euros instead of only one! And you still have a whopping chance of about 32 percent to win every time you bet. The chances on an 1:2 field will be higher, but you'll almost never be able to iron out your possible losses.
